Self-portrait, 1979 |
Dena Cornett, a native Californian, received a BFA magna cum laude in 1979 from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas, where she grew up, then moved to San Francisco in 1979 to attend post-graduate school at the San Francisco Art Institute. She maintains an art studio in Mill Valley, California, open by appointment.
|
Her current work, in soft pastel and oils, concentrates on depicting the beauty of Northern California landscapes. She paints en plein air and in her Mill Valley studio. She is a member the Marin Arts Council, the Pastel Society of the West Coast, and the Art on the Farm group of artists who paint en plein air at local Marin and Sonoma County organic farms.

Dena Cornett |
The earlier work shown on this website was inspired by her travels to the colonial cities of Mexico. Dena is inspired by life’s variety - from cityscape to landscape to the figure – and continues to be fascinated by the elements of color, light, line, and shadow.
